A little more about Brandon
When Brandon Poletti performed in front of 40,000 rabid football fans, it was the furthest thing in the world from his first open mic night as a 20-year-old wracked with stage fright. Within just a few years, Poletti's journey had taken him from bedroom songwriter to consummate touring musician – packing out venues across Australia. Now emerging from the studio after a busy year, Poletti returns with his highly anticipated sophomore EP, the stunning Words from Within.
Beautifully produced by Josh Dyson at Villa Studios, Words from Within showcases Brandon's maturity as a songwriter – delivering wave upon wave of beautiful melody and deeply heartfelt lyrics as the EP unfolds like a good book. The perfect case in point is the EP's essential title-track, which takes the listener on a laid-back voyage through Poletti's intricate musicianship, colourful wordplay and effortlessly smooth vocal delivery.
Words from Within follows on from Brandon's 2018 debut My Biggest Fear, which set his career in motion. Inspired by the great storyteller-songwriters such as Paul Kelly, Archie Roach and Missy Higgins, Brandon's style was defined by an honest introspection that instantly resonated with listeners. With songs like the revealing title-track and hypnotic Prisoners, My Biggest Fear displayed a depth and control rarely found in a new artist's repertoire. It was a perfect introduction.
Maintaining this trajectory, Words from Within is a befitting body of work to continue Brandon's odyssey. Unmistakable throughout the EP is the sheer quality of musicianship on display. Calling in some of Perth's best musicians, Brandon filled the studio with the stellar lineup of Josh Dyson (guitar/keys), Harry Winton (guitar), Gregory Brenton (drums),
Karl Florisson (bass), vocalists Jordan Anthony, Xyanthe Lee and Madoc Plane, and global pedal steel phenomenon Lucky Oceans.
The end result speaks volumes. This world-class ensemble has given life to Brandon's wonderfully crafted songs, taking them to the next level. Each song reveals a little more of its artist's soul – from the perfect road trip cruiser Sitting By Myself, to the summery romanticism of Remind Me. Adding the spice of variety, second single Too Long takes a glorious detour from Poletti's trademark sound – floating subtle instrumentation atop a gentle, breezy rhythm.
Exploratory and creatively free, yet always sounding cohesive and together, the songs on Words from Within bear the mark of a truly gifted songwriter... a musician blessed not only with natural talent but the work ethic needed to see it flourish. Forever ready to hit the road to anywhere and everywhere, Brandon will use Words from Within as a catalyst to resume his tireless touring regime, which will see him hit the road around Australia and New Zealand in 2020.
